Little Grebe

The Little Grebe / Belibis Kecil runs faster on water than it swims or fly, so it seems. It is shy and keeps to isolated large ponds, swimming close to the pond's edge that is thick with tall reeds (6-7 ft), providing a safe abode. When it notices danger or threat, such as people, it scuttled hurriedly on the water's surface in a panic, flapping wings and all in half flight. Nevertheless, an amusing sight. In a heavily fruiting tree, several species of birds compete while an adult Fire-tufted Barbet / Takur Jumbai-api showed her youngster a ripened fruit in her beak. The younger bird tried to get it but was turned away. He then searched for one himself and learned the lesson.
