Spawn Space

Local kites, Brahminy seems to dominate the air space and thus the food source by the water, all that for purpose of courting and mating. They look prime, with fresh feathers, and their calls are heard. Migrant black-eared kites look subdued and kept low, not attempting to fly and much less go near the water.

Common Greenshank

With so much similarities among waders, having green legs can make one stands out, even with only one leg..

Black-crowned Night Heron

What can I say, he waits ever so patiently and quietly, come night or day.. Black-crowned Night Heron.

Collared Owlet

In a flurry of a bird wave, the Collared Owlet was unmoved. But between the branches, her tell tale barrings are noticeable to the keen observer. Twice she flew after realizing being watched, and twice I had to search her among the twigs. Fortunately, as I'd guessed, it didn't fly far and the buff barring on her brown plumage is as clear as a picture.

She can turn her head an amazing 180 backwards, showing her false eyes which are actually on the back of the head.

Purple-naped Sunbird

The ripened flowers drenched in morning dew look irresistible to a pair of Purple-naped sunbirds. The female (not shown here) is exactly the male except for the luminous purplish patch on the nape and rump. Quite a sight!

Bloodshot Bozzo

A Bulbul's eye can be as red as a bull's eye, as you can see.. They can't help but to come out with the rest when a wave is impending, perhaps also crossed. Guess which other Bulbul tags along in the background? (Hint: eyes)

Not easy to see, much less all of it, unless it is not hidden from view. This dude was resting in an abandoned house early in the morning of the first day of new year 2012, in Sekinchan, Selangor.

Crimson-breasted Flowerpecker

Can't miss the breast of this dude (male), who was with the female (no pix) and juvenile in drabs, but that didn't hinder them from foraging heavily on a fruiting berry tree. Taman Rimba Ampang, 14.1.12.

Drongo Cuckoo

After a long while, finally began spotting the Drongo Cuckoos everywhere.. from lowland forest to the hill stations.

Sunda Pygmy Woodpecker

The female Sunda Pygmy Woody checks out her new nesting spot. Though occasionally flying out, she usually stays inside to work in the interior, unendingly, and spewing ashes of wood debris out.

Black-capped Kingfisher

Tireless and determined, the Black-capped KF flies in and out of its safety perch in a large tree to forage - successful almost everytime. Food includes crabs and fish.
